Science, Development, and Sovereignty in the Arab World examines recent and current performance of Arab countries and their organizations in scientific research in relation to their socio-economic development. It shows that the Arab countries have altered their research and development performance in recent years. They are, however, severely handicapped by a political economy dominated by technological dependence, corruption, and limited inter-Arab collaboration on scientific research. The book highlights factors that have affected the individual Arab countries' development of R&D and uses standard international indicators to evaluate research output, human capital, economic performance, standing in agriculture and health. It compares data and outcomes between countries and within the region and evaluates the effects of international cooperation in scientific research and the prevailing political economy.
