draft; This book of short essays examines many beliefs and practicesof good and bad managers. It reviews some of the latest thinking, dispels myths and provides insights. Adrian Furnham takes asideways glanceat management. It is difficult not to be amazed and amused by the daft, delusional or dim witted ideas of some managers or those who write about the topic. At worst they are desperately nïave about people and/or the benefits of certain approaches. They are also frequently very misleading. They dumb-down rather than lift-up. This is what makes the word b1 sintelligence b2 s so ironic. Some of these essays have been described as naughty. Some have appeared in different guides in newspaper columns and b3 sexcited debate b4 s. That is they have attracted everything from thanks tohate mail. Puncturing pomposity causes strong reactions. The essays are like tablets: to be taken afewat a time. They are designed to cure hangovers, reduce blood pressure and lighten the mood.Theyare also meant to be prophylactics against managerial madness. Take two, then call Adrian, or emailhim, in the morning.
