Understanding Change in Strategy -- The Traditional Strategy -- The New Strategy -- Implementing the Strategy -- Modifying the Strategy.
This systematically researched study is a theoretical treatise outlining the most significantshift ever made in Greece's strategy in relation to Turkey. By advancing the 'strategic culture' literature and the concept of 'international socialization' with regard to a state's strategy, Panayotis J. Tsakonas presents the most comprehensive explanation to date of what defines a state's socialization strategy, when it is likely to emerge in relations between adversaries, what forms it can takeand with what consequences. The methodical and detailed analysis of Greece's strategy towards Turkey, from its spectacular change in the late1990s up to early 2009, highlights important new findings about the role particular elements of a state's strategic culture play in explaining major and/or minor shifts in strategy. The book breaks new ground in exploring when and how states develop socialization strategies and offers decision makers a framework that supplements the conventional analysis and conduct of statecraft.
