Modernist Writings and Religio-scientific Discourse explores literary modernism through the lens of cultural history. Focusing on the intersection of scientific and religious discourse in the works of H.D., Mina Loy, and Jean Toomer, Lara Vetter argues that a peculiarly modern spiritual understanding of science appealed to modernist writers as a way of negotiating the perceived threats to aradically unstable body. Analyzing literary and extraliterary writing, this study offers articulateconclusions on how these writers came to construct their own worldviewsin response to the arts, science and religion of their time.
